Behavioural Skills from Hollywood Movies

Movies are more than just entertainment; they can be an extremely powerful medium in teaching us invaluable life lessons. Here are some inspiring Hollywood movies which will further enhance our behavioural skills and provide a whole new perspective about the importance of values:

1. 12 Angry Men (1957)

Watch this movie for the Assertive Communication & Convincing Skills of Juror #8 (played by Henry Fonda). Apparently, the convincing also required a lot of Analytical thinking as well as empathizing with the young man convicted of a murder.

2. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Very deserving, all time IMDB #1, ranked by viewers, Andy Dufresne (played by Tim Robbins) teaches not only perseverance but also self-control & self-motivation even during the most terrible setbacks of life.

3. Remember The Titans (2000)

This sports movie inevitably teaches us Teamwork, Leadership & the importance of how a team can reach its goal by leaving behind the weaknesses & banking upon the strengths of its members. But this movie also teaches us something more – Change management – how Coach Herman Boone (played by Denzel Washington) brings about a gradual change in the attitude of the team with his powerful ideas & reinforcement of values.

4. Erin Brockovich (2000)

Erin Brockovich‘s (played by Julia Roberts) professional success is all about the importance of Emotional Intelligence – understanding the needs of a client, empathy, perseverance to provide the right solution & standing up for what is ethically right. It also proves that the readiness to learn is more important than how educated one is.

5. The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)

This movie is about the life of Chris Gardner (played by Will Smith), an American investor, stock broker & entrepreneur. You will find that even in the toughest situations, Chris displays Adaptability, Resourcefulness & high Self-control; also observe how dreaming big or having a vision can make a difference to a person’s life. Watch how he pulls off an interview without a shirt! (Interview skills there!)

6. Invictus (2009)

“Sport has the power to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela. True to this quote, this movie depicts how Nelson Mandela (played by Morgan Freeman) influences & motivates a team to perform beyond their capacity & win a cup & the hearts of their country men. This movie is about the power of Motivation, exceptional Leadership & Vision to bring about a healthy change in the scheme of things.
